Power and Candy: For those who haven't seen it, Condoleezza is the most powerful woman in the world, according to Forbes. And apparently GWOT is now G-SAVE (the Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism). Krugman mentions it in passing in today's column.
As you may know, I have a tremendous sweet tooth. So I found this article on The Chocolate Wars very educational... it delves deeper into the background and inspiration of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Apparently, Roald Dahl was also a candymonster like me, and was upset that some of his favorites went out of production. You can't patent candy recipes (fyi: an IPR issue), so there is a lot of spying and secretiveness in the candy industry. Seriously, a really interesting article. Somewhat unrelatedly, health advocates are angry about an Apple Jacks commercial where a cinnamon stick is cool and the apple is sour and grouchy...
Too much candy doesn't seem to have anything to do with it: a kid was convicted for intentionally vomiting on his teacher, and sentenced to clean up after anyone who vomits in a police car for the next four months.
